The Golden Horseshoe is the region surrounding Lake Ontario on the Canadian side. The by-product synergy project started initially with 95 participants in January 2001 at the first of eight working meetings in total. The number of participants has been reduced down to 22 companies and 5 organisations due to economic slowdown and company restructuring (Dias et al. 2001; Hatch 2002).
The following regional synergy examples are documented in this database:
By-Product Synergies
- Reuse of Iron Oxide from Steel Manufacturer as a Raw material in Cement Manufacturing
- Reuse of Off-Spec Material from a Carbon Black Manufacturer as a Foaming Slag Additive
