

The Tampico region, population of approximately 800,000 is one of the busiest ports in Mexico, located in the Gulf of Mexico. In 1997, the Business Council for Sustainable Development - Gulf of Mexico (BCSD-GM) launched a demonstration By-Product Synergy project in Tampico with a group of 21 local industries, mostly from the chemical and petrochemical sectors. The project generated input and output profiles for 27 separate processes in 18 regional Tampico businesses.
