By-Product Synergies from Oil Refinery

Summary

Shell refinery has made a site available for chemical industries who could use the by products from the refinery. The Montell Company already uses ethene, butene and propene from the refinery, rest products are supplied back to Shell. The Kolb Company (producer of chemicals) uses ethene oxide from Shell as a raw material. The waste incinerator supplies steam and electricity to the Shell refinery. Basell (joint venture of Shell and BASF) will get raw materials from the refinery. There are plans also for the refinery to supply its CO2 to agricultural firms.
