Use of Industrial Grade Water Instead of Scheme Water

Summary

As part of the Rotterdam INES (industrial eco-system) project detailed water input/output balances were compiled for 35 major water uses in four sub clusters (Europoort, Botlek, Pernis and Maasvlakte). The data showed that 20% of the companies used 90% of the total water use. A project was initiated to supply the three main clusters which used the greatest amount of water with industrial grade water from a nearby lake to replace scheme water. This project has a potential cost saving of 8 million Euro annually.
