STAWA 2006: Mineral Properties and Identification

24 November 2006 | Murdoch University | WA

Minerals are the building blocks of the earth and from these come an amazing variety of products from diamonds to silver to bricks. This workshop used the Minerals Council of Australia mineral set in hands-on activities to demonstrate the properties of minerals. It also allowed the participant to develop a scheme for identifying minerals based on the physical properties of lustre, colour and streak, hardness, specific gravity and special properties.

The same principles can be used to generate identification schemes for a range of more commonly available materials.
