Project Status: Complete
Project Participants: BHP Billiton, CSIRO, Rio Tinto, Xstrata, Anglo Platinum, AMIRA
Project Leader: Richard Beck (AMIRA)
This project was the second stage of AMIRA project P667 and aimed to further develop, validate and ruggedise a surface vibration monitoring device (accelerometer) which is used to detect all forms of vibration associated with grinding mills. This project involved the construction, testing and demonstration of a continuously powered ruggedised mill vibration monitoring system and the development of more advanced signal processing and interpretation systems for monitoring mill operating conditions.
The benefits of the project are improved mill control and the detection of unwanted operating conditions, such as that which creates excessive liner wear. Further refinement and validation of the DEM virtual vibration sensor for mills was also undertaken. Plant trials to support this work were carried out as required.
