Sustainability Training Pilot (5A1)

The intent of this project was to develop a sustainability training program which can be customised for application to particular operations. It focussed on education and training of para-professional staff. Initially it was aimed at increasing awareness of sustainability and how these concepts can be translated into operational improvements.

The training program was developed in two stages. This project encompassed the first stage, which was the development and trial of a pilot program in liaison with Argyle Diamonds (a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, a Core Participant of CSRP). The second stage will encompass the refinement of the model and implementation across the minerals industry, and will occur in a subsequent project.

The expected outcomes were:

• Training products that are generally applicable to the resource processing sector.
• Customised training products that are specific to Argyle Diamond requirements.
• Increased awareness of sustainability concepts amongst resource processing personnel.
• Increased understanding of the meaning of sustainability in terms of education and training in the resource processing area.
• Increased drive for continuous improvement and incremental improvements in resource processing.
• Industry support and funding secured to progress to Stage Two.
