Farewell

Prof Rene van Berkel, Curtin University ’s representative on our Research Leadership Team has left Curtin and CSRP. We wish Rene every success in his future endeavours.

 

Gladstone Community Lecture

A GAMSET-sponsored community lecture will be held in Gladstone on 16 th June. Dr Nick Welham, from Murdoch University , will be presenting the lecture, entitled “Aluminium through the looking glass - history, production, properties and uses” at the Gladstone State High School Theatre, Queensland starting at 6pm. Updated Documents on Centric

A number of the proformas used in CSRP , in particular the new project initiation and proposal forms, Report Title page and standard acknowledgements. Water Workshop

As part of drafting the CSRP water issues paper, a roundtable gathering industry representatives was held on the 4th and 5th of April to ascertain the industry’s view on current performance in water management. Industries represented at the workshop included OneSteel, Alcoa, BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Hatch, URS and Comalco as well as several other consulting companies and government organizations, thus providing a wide variety of views. The workshop was organised in seven intensive sessions, requiring active participation and interaction from all participants. The study team is thankful to the participants who have provided valuable input to the study.

 

Student-Industry-CRC Symposium

The 2006 Student-Industry-CRC Symposium is being held from 18th-23rd June 2006 at the Central Queensland University (Marina Campus) in Gladstone. New Students

We have 2 new Honours students, Daniel Tuazon and Astrid Skender. Daniel, whose thesis is entitled “Life Cycle Assessment of Seawater Neutralised Red Mud from Gladstone for Treatment of Acid Mine Drainage at Mount Morgan Mine”, is based at the University of Queensland and is supervised by Dr Glen Corder. Astrid, whose thesis is entitled “Processing of Bayer Residue Sands for Iron Production by Spirals”, is based at Curtin University and is supervised by Dr Denis Yan and Assoc Prof Norm Stockton. Welcome Daniel and Astrid.
