This year’s Participants Forum will be held on 2nd November in Melbourne. It will be preceded by a Minerals Sector Sustainability Roundtable. Formal notices of these two events will be sent shortly.
A half-day roundtable will be hosted by CSRP for the Minerals Sector to discuss and share topics and issues on sustainability. Keynote speakers will present on the most challenging aspects facing industry as we come to terms with sustainability – what it is and how we might achieve it. Highlights of CSRP’s successes will be presented along with learnings from industry and elsewhere. The Roundtable will be followed by a networking lunch and then by CSRP’s Participants’ Forum (which is open to CSRP members only).
The purpose of the Participant’s Forum is to provide a forum for consultation among the CSRP Participants and is chaired by the ISC Chairman, Philip Bangerter. An update of CSRP’s activities will be given followed by an opportunity for participants to present their views and open discussion. For more details of these events, please contact Lisa Laurie on 08 6436 8702 or lisa.laurie@csrp.com.au
CSRP students in Perth attended two professional development courses over the past several weeks:
Financial Management and Project Evaluation in the Mining and Minerals Industry: This professional development session was held from 10th-14th July. Dr Pietro Guj, Associate Professor in Mineral Economics at Curtin University, was the main presenter of this course to Murdoch Extractive Metallurgy and CSRP students.
Fundamentals of Hydrometallurgy and Advanced Hydrometallurgy courses were offered 8th-11th August at Murdoch University in Perth. Professor Mike Nicol ran both offerings which were open to CSRP students.
One of our MSc students attended both courses.
Dr Nimal Subasinghe, Senior Lecturer in Extractive Metallurgy at Murdoch University offered a short course entitled “Plant Performance Evaluation”. The two-day offering was co-sponsored by CSRP and Murdoch and was presented BHP-Billiton Iron Ore Operations, Newman, WA.
Two more teacher professional development workshops were run during the winter. Both the “Chemistry and Physics of Extractive Metallurgy” and the “Advanced Metallurgy” one-day courses were held at Murdoch University with Dr Nick Welham, Ken Seymour and Dan Churach as the main presenters.
Wes Nichols, Senior Geologist at Anglo Coal’s Callide Mine in Queensland presented a talk entitled “The Concept of the Coal Chain” at Murdoch University on 13th July. School teachers, academics and other interested participants attended.
