[] New Resource for Teachers Wins Award

Science in the classroom has traditionally been concerned with textbooks and the periodic table as opposed to the real world of work. However, a program launched by the CSRP and Murdoch University Extractive Metallurgy is changing that perception with an education outreach program to show physical science teachers employment possibilities for their students. Currently 600 teachers have elected to be part of the initiative, and it has been so successful that it has received the CRC Association Award for Excellence in Innovation in Education and Training.

[] CRC Association Conference

Members of the CSRP staff met with hundreds of others at the annual CRC Conference on 21-23 May in Sydney. The conference brought together all CRCs across Australia, along with their partners and other interested bodies to discuss the latest achievements in world class collaborative science and education.

Speakers and student presentations represented a broad spectrum of the CRC community and included such topics as supercomputers, the National Innovation System review, Singapore’s global test bed, R&D based innovation in major industries, using polymers for nerve regeneration, supergrass, safer contact lenses, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and more. Presentations were followed by interactive workshops divided into various streams including financial management, communications, CRC lifecycle, IP management, commercialisation and education.

Aside from meeting other like-minded people, attendees left the conference motivated and armed with knowledge to help improve the operation of their CRC.
