CSRP Newsletter, June 2008

Welcome to the June edition of the CSRP Newsletter. If you wish to have anything included in the newsletter, please email Lisa Laurie at lisa.laurie@csrp.com.au

[] Collaborative research centre on the right path

CSRP took another step along the path to a low carbon future with the first geopolymer concrete path in Australia laid at the Curtin University of Technology campus in Bentley (Perth) WA. Geopolymer concrete has a number of desirable properties over ordinary Portland cement based concretes not the least of which is that it produces 80% less Greenhouse Gases. The demonstration path is a result of collaboration between many organisations including CSRP, Rocla, Blue Circle Cement, Golden Bay Cement, Boral, CSIRO, Curtin and the Geopolymer Alliance.

[] 2nd Korea-Australia Joint Symposium

Stevan Green attended the second Korea-Australia Symposium on the “technology for sustainable development of mineral and energy resources”, which was hosted by CSIRO in Melbourne on Wednesday 04 June. Presentations were given by CSRP staff members Jim Avraamides, Warren Bruckard and Michael Somerville, as well as members from the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM). CSRP hopes to continue fostering relations with KIGAM and is looking forward to signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute later in the year.

[] Melbourne students collaborate with CSRP

The University of Melbourne and CSRP have signed a student project agreement allowing two PhD students to work with the CSRP geopolymer team and the Geopolymer Alliance. CSRP looks forward to strengthening relations with the University and its students.
