[] TAP and RAP

The Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) met this quarter in Melbourne on 30 July 2008, kindly hosted at the offices of Nyrstar. Comprehensive updates on the Research Action Plans (RAP) were given by the leaders of the Bauxite Residue, Geopolymers and Zero Waste/Minor Elements programs. The remaining programs on Sustainable Development, Comminution and CO2 Breakthrough will present at the next TAP meeting.

> Members agreed to change the date of the next meeting from 21 October to 17 November 2008 to coincide with the CSRP’08 conference being held in Brisbane.

[] SD08 Solutions through Collaboration

The Mineral Council of Australia's "Sustainable Development" conference is being held in Darwin on 15-19 September 2008. The program offers a range of case studies and presentations, bringing together leaders, experts and practitioners from around the world to exchange ideas, information and practical examples of sustainable development.

As a tangible example of the “Solutions through Collaboration” theme, CSRP’s booth at the trade exhibition will promote our achievements and current work to potential future sponsors of “CSRP2”. The University of Queensland will also have a booth promoting its Sustainable Minerals Institute.

Conference presentations and workshops are being given by various members of the CSRP community, including: Stevan Green (CEO, CSRP), David Brereton and Chris Moran (University of Queensland), Geoff Brent (Orica), Peter Elliott (URS) and others.

[] CSRP'08 and Participants' Forum

The program for our CSRP’08 conference being held in Brisbane on 18-19 November 2008 is almost finalised. Registrations will be open shortly.

The Participants’ Forum is scheduled for the afternoon of 18 November. Its purpose is to provide a forum for consultation among the CSRP Participants; and to act as an advisory body to the CEO.

[] Snippets from the Green chair

Stevan Green (CEO) recently met with the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research to highlight CSRP’s achievements, our research plans for the next two years, and thoughts on a future CSRP2. The General Manager was present and was very impressed. Stevan gave a similar presentation to the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts. Present at the meeting was a Director in the Environment Protection Branch and he stated he was very happy with the progress and outcomes of CSRP.

CSRP researchers at CSIRO in Clayton presented their work on dry granulation to the Chairman of the CSRP Governing Board, Mr Malcolm Macpherson. Mr Macpherson was very excited to hear about the developments in this area.

CSRP headquarters continues to prepare for the re-bid and has been busy promoting the future CSRP2 to various companies and stakeholders. We have received and are reviewing the report by Mary O'Kane on the CRC Program Review. The full National Innovation System Review has been postponed until the end of August, which will delay the Government's response.
