[] CSRP2 Re-bid

Applications for the bid for another round of CRC funding close on 20 March 2009. In preparation for this, CSRP HQ has developed a summary document explaining the bid, which will be used as the basis for discussions with prospective participants.

Stevan Green and Tony Bagshaw will be visiting the most prospective participants over the next 3-4 weeks and a target business plan for CSRP2 has been prepared for these meetings. Visits are planned for Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Port Kembla, Brisbane, Mt Isa and Perth. Stevan and Tony will also be meeting with our research providers: University of Queensland, Curtin University, University of Cape Town (via phone), Murdoch University, University of Newcastle and University of Technology Sydney.

In parallel, CSRP HQ are preparing the Economic Impact Projection which is a significant part of the bid submission process. RMDSTEM are assisting us with this and we have held meetings in Perth and Brisbane with all Program Leaders to gather the necessary information to complete this task. The early outputs from this exercise will also help us to make the value proposition for the industry participants as well as the obvious need to show value to the CRC program. The work we did with RMDSTEM last year gives us a very good head-start on all of this.

As you can see it’s a busy and exciting time leading up to 20 March.

[] 4th Student-Industry-CRC Symposium

CSRP, in conjunction with the other mineral and energy sector CRCs, is once again holding the Student-Industry-CRC Symposium from 8-13 February 2009 in Pinjarra, Western Australia.

The aim of the Symposium is to introduce participating students to network with other early career researchers in the mineral and energy sector as well as meeting a variety of industry representatives.

The structure of the event aims to provide an informal setting in which to showcase student research across the various CRCs as well as independent programs.

The benefits for students include the experience of presenting their research to industry participants as well as networking with potential employers and future colleagues. The benefit to industry is also significant, with participants gaining a first-hand look at research being conducted across the CRCs in the mineral and energy sector.

> Visit the Symposium website for more details.

[] SDIMI 2009 and CSRP sponsored session

The Sustainable Development Indicators in the Minerals Industry (SDIMI) 2009 conference is being held from 6-8 July 2009 on the Gold Coast.

The conference will focus on the application and integration of sustainable development principles in the minerals industry, and will encompass the social and human, as well as the environmental and technological, dimensions of sustainability. A strong representation of sustainability researchers and practitioners is expected from the Australian and international minerals industry, research organisations and the government sector.

CSRP is planning to run a half-day session on sustainable development case studies, including presentations and a panel discussion.
