Obviously the big news this month is the re-bid. We have been notified by the Department of Innovation that the bid for CSRP2 was not selected to go forward to the next stage of the CRC Program selection round.
This is of course a disappointment to us all, however we have a very dedicated team of people that are keen to further the work of CSRP and as such, will be considering all options over the coming weeks and months. Our Chairman, Malcolm Macpherson, and the Executive met with the Technical Advisory Panel Working Group in Perth on 30 April to kick off this process.
It was agreed that CSRP has achieved some remarkable results and that we should continue to ensure that this work is completed to a high standard, such that maximum value is obtained from our outputs. In addition, it was agreed that a number of activities could be developed further – beyond CSRP's current scope – and that the team would seek ways to find the required resources to do this.
We look forward to working to develop options beyond CSRP and we will keep you posted on these developments.
In other news this month, Stevan Green travelled to South Africa to present at the Sustainability through Resource Conservation and Recycling 09 conference (SRCR 09) and to visit with our project affiliates at the University of Cape Town. He also took the opportunity to visit iThemba Laboratory for Accelerator-Based Sciences – home of the Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) facility in which CSRP is a participant, and which will greatly enhance the research into efficient comminution and liberation. At the time of going to print, the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) device was on the high seas between London and Cape Town.
Visitors to CSRP's offices this month included Eduardo Dantas (Director, Sustainable Development) from Vale in Brazil; and Corrine Boone (Managing Director, Environment and Community Interface), Philip Bangerter (Global Director, Sustainability) and Tracy Lydiatt (Sustainable Development Project Leader) from Hatch. The Technology Delivery Group from Alcoa received an update on the Geopolymer program of work.
Karin Schianetz has left the Centre of Excellence in Cleaner Production (CECP) at Curtin University of Technology and has handed over leadership of the following three CSRP projects to Ms Albena Bossilkov:
Since joining CECP in 2001, Albena has been involved in working with SMEs and various research and consultancy in cleaner production, eco-efficiency and industrial ecology. She has also been involved in delivering a training program in cleaner production for SMEs and local government employees, and developing case studies and information materials for number of industry sectors.
We thank Karin for the work she has done whilst at CSRP and wish Albena luck in her new role.

Two of Prof Hamid Nikraz's students at Curtin University of Technology have had their theses accepted:
Congratulations to Kaveh and Majid. We wish them well in their future endeavours.
CSRP is sponsoring a writing workshop for postgraduate students and researchers. Dr Marina Hurley, founder and manager of Writing Clear Science, will be presenting the workshops being held on 8-10 July in Perth.
The course is aimed at science professionals and postgraduate students with different types of writing experience. It is not specifically designed for beginners or advanced writers, but at participants with scientific backgrounds interested in improving writing skills.
